via Flickr: This is a nesting female common nighthawk giving a broken wing display to distract a potential predator (me) from her nest. Nighthawks do not build nests but lay their eggs in shallow depressions in the sand. They are extremely cryptic and usually do not leave their nests, but in this case I almost stepped on it. The female flew and then pretended she had a broken wing and slowly led me away from the nest
